The National Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA) on Wednesday announced a maximum Ksh1 million licencing fee for alcohol trade.
According to the government entity, this licence fee must be paid by all businesses engaging in the importation or exportation of alcoholic drinks in Kenya.
NACADA in a statement revealed that it had taken over licencing functions from the Intergovernmental Relations Technical Committee.
“Fees payable are according to the volumes intended to be imported or exported in the coming period of twelve months,” the statement read in part.
For traders importing or exporting one million litres will be required to pay an annual Ksh1 million licencing fee.
From 500,000 litres to 999,999 litres, traders will pay Ksh500,000 while for any amount below that the licencing fee will cost Ksh250,000.
NACADA stated that the certificate will be processed within 14 days after an application has been made.
How to Apply for an Alcohol Licence in Kenya
Interested applicants must download a form from the NACADA website and submit their duly filled Application Form to the appointed receiving officer within the legal department.
The NACADA Licensing Committee will then convene and consider whether or not an applicant may be granted an import/export license.
Once the committee approves the request, the applicant shall be requested to pay the requisite license fees.
“Only the applicants who have been approved and communicated to as such will be requested to pay the license fees,” traders were told.
“Once the license is ready for collection, the applicant shall be informed, upon which the same may be picked from the NACADA offices.”
