5 passengers were reported dead after a matatu collided with a lorry in an early morning accident in Naivasha.
According to reports, the rest of the passengers are in critical condition. The accident was caused by a miscalculation after the PSV collided with the lorry from the back.
Witnesses indicated that the incident occurred at the Flyover section on your way to Naivasha.
According to the SACCO managing the PSV in question, the vehicle was en route to Nairobi. However, upon reaching Kinungi, near the flyover, a lorry carrying cabbages, experienced brake failure and unexpectedly reversed, colliding with the matatu.
“5 people died on the spot. This is, however, not the police report as they are carrying out their own investigations,” Sacco told Kenyans.co.
Following the accident, the seats next to the driver bore significant damage from the force of the crash.
The impact had caused items from the matatu to scatter, and noticeable wreckage included a torn door, a damaged bonnet, and sections of the car's roof.
By the time of publishing this article, police officers had not released an official statement.
Nevertheless, officers promptly arrived at the scene to evaluate the situation and manage traffic.
Afterward, the bodies were moved to the nearby morgue, and the injured were quickly taken to the hospital for treatment.
Witnesses present at the scene stated that before the accident, the matatu driver was speeding which they cited as a potential cause of the accident.
According to data from the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA), 3,760 people have lost their lives in accidents this year.
