The Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Thursday arrested a member of the Isiolo County Assembly accused of dealing in marijuana.
In a statement, DCI revealed that the suspects were arrested on the outskirts of Isiolo town by a multi-agency team, working in partnership with officers from the Transnational Organized Crimes Unit.
The two male suspects, aged 27 and 25 years, were flagged down in Isiolo Town while driving a white Landcruiser.
One of the suspects arrested has been confirmed as a sitting MCA in Isiolo County.
“The team proceeded to the house at Kambi Garba Estate on the outskirts of Isiolo town where six gunny bags containing the 57 stones of the prohibited herb were recovered”, the DCI statement read in part.
The DCI also revealed that the bhang exhibits were escorted to DCI headquarters for further processing as the suspects underwent investigative interviewing.
The agency was, however, yet to ascertain the street value of the contraband by the time of publishing this story.
The arrest comes after the police seized two motor vehicles loaded with 14 sacks and six bails estimated to be 588 Kilograms in November.
Five suspects were arrested in the Kisii operation and the seized contraband was valued at Sh17,640,000 in the streets.
The arrested MCA was elected on a United Democratic Movement Ticket, which is affiliated with the Kenya Kwanza Movement.
The political outfit decamped from the opposition's Azimio Coalition to the ruling coalition in August 2022, barely two weeks after the General Election.
In the election, UDM, clinched a total of 45 seats among them Mandera Governor Mohamed Adan and Wajir's Khalif Mohamud Ali.
Based on previous reports, the MCA made headlines in the past when he and his fellow UDM ward reps rallied against, Isiolo Governor Ali Guyo for his remarks against the Party leader Marsabit Governor, Muhamud Ali.
