Motorists Warned of Traffic Interruption on Major Highways Over Abnormal Load Transportation

Motorists and other road users have been cautioned about another abnormal transportation which is set to disrupt transportation on Kenyan highways for 32 days.

In a notice published in local dailies, the logistics company set to undertake the transportation announced that the haulage will go on for 32 days beginning Monday, February 26 and will continue through to March 28, 2024.

Through the notice, motorists were urged to take caution and plan their travels accordingly to avoid inconveniences.

"This is to notify all road users and the general public of the abnormal load movement on the following routes. Please exercise extra caution when near the vicinity of this cargo," read part of the notice.

The cargo shall be transported from Mombasa to Malaba affecting motorists who frequently use routes along that stretch.

The heavy-duty vehicles transporting the abnormal load will take the route from Mombasa to Mariakani to Voi then Mtito Andei then to Emali to Machakos Junction. 

The cargo will then be transported to Naivasha through to Nakuru and Webuye and finally arrive at Malaba. The company did not however reveal the cargo being transported but the dimensions of the load were given.

The load shall be transported in four trucks, each with different dimensions. The truck will have an average gross weight of 71 metric tonnes, the second will have 60MT, the third with 54MT and the fourth with 71MT.

On the truck's dimensions, one of them was listed to be 25.6 metres in length, 4.2 metres in width, and 5.5 metres in height. The other is 25.6 metres in length, 3.35 metres in width, and 5.6 metres in height.

The third truck is 25.7 metres in length, 3.5 metres in width and 5.5 metres in height. While the fourth truck is 25.7 metres in length, 4.2 metres in width and 5.5 metres in height.

Typically, items transported as abnormal cargo include; boats, planes, military equipment, choppers and heavy steel construction metals among others.

Currently, Sifa Investment Ltd, another logistics company is transporting heavy cargo from Mombasa to Malaba. The journey began on February 8 and is expected to end on March 31.

The load has captured the attention of Kenyans who have been following its progress since it began.

The cargo which appears to be a large boat has caused traffic disruption on major highways.
