KeNHA on Tuesday night, March 27, embarked on repair works along Waiyaki Way following an uproar over the poor state of the road.
This follows a viral video circulating for the better part of Tuesday, showcasing multiple vehicles experiencing tyre bursts after traversing potholes along the road.
In response to the public outcry, KeNHA announced that the contractor has initiated repair works to address the issue.
Photographs shared by the agency depicted workers addressing the potholes during nighttime operations.
"The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) wishes to inform the public that the contractor has continued with the repair works on Waiyaki Way, towards Westlands, ahead of new surface dressing," read part of KeNHA's statement.
The Authority assured the public that all efforts would be undertaken to ensure the safety of road users.
"The Authority will ensure your safety and convenience remain our utmost concern. We appreciate your patience and cooperation as we endeavour to enhance our road infrastructure."
A video went viral on social media showing motorists parking their vehicles on the side of the road after passing through the potholes. At the time, a mechanic was seen replacing the damaged tyres with a spare.
The situation was so dire that other motorists exited their vehicles and decided to fill the potholes with stones to provide a temporary solution.
The incidents came after a heavy downpour witnessed during the weekend which affected the drainage of busy highways in Nairobi.
Several roads were declared impassable following the floods, leading to motorists urging the Nairobi County government to take action over the matter.
In response, Nairobi governor Johnson Sakaja ordered the Green Army to clean the city and unclog the drainage systems. He also assured Nairobi residents that his administration would take necessary measures to avoid loss of lives and property.
