Areas Quarantined in Nakuru after Anthrax Outbreak

An Anthrax outbreak has been reported in Rongai, Nakuru West and Nakuru East sub-counties in Nakuru County.

The areas have since been put under quarantine.

The county executive for agriculture Stanley Chepkwony says samples from the affected areas tested positive for the disease, Citizen Tv reports.

At the Lake Nakuru National Park, over one hundred buffaloes and two rhinos have died as a result of the outbreak.

Chepkwony said that measures regarding meat consumptions have been put in place.

Meat will not be allowed in and out of the quarantined areas.

The residents have been warned against coming in contact with the infected animals.

A free anthrax vaccination program is set to begin on Thursday in all the affected areas to prevent further spread.
