Asman Kamama to Quit From National Security Committee

Tiaty Member of Parliament (MP) Asaman Kamama has announced that he will quit his position as the Chairman of the Parliamentary National Security Committee.

Kamama, who is also an official in President Uhuru Kenyatta's campaign team, seemingly succumbed to pressure following sustained calls for him to relinquish the post.

Various MPS and leaders, especially from the Rift Valley region, had demanded that he steps down following deadly attacks in the North Rift region.

Speaking to a local daily, the MP distanced himself from the violence which has polarised parts of Baringo and Elgeyo Marakwet counties and caused deaths of dozens.

"I have been unfairly accused of the insecurity menace in Kerio valley. Let it be clear that all along I have been at the forefront in spearheading peace and development in the region," he affirmed.

The Chairman was accused of impeding efforts to enhance peace and security especially inhis constituency despite being at the helm of the Security Committee.

At one point, he was blamed for the killing of Tiaty parliamentary aspirant, Pepee Kitambaa, and Loyamorok Member of the County Assembly (MCA), Kibet Cheretei, who were shot dead in Marigat town.

Previously, he had also been accused of using his powers in the Committee to arms members of his Pokot community with ammunitions.

He has numerously survived attempts to oust him from the position due to what is said to be close links with the Executive.
