Bomet Governor Isaac Ruto has sacked the county's deputy governor, Stephen Mutai for allegedly absconding duty for the past two years.
The Governor has now appointed his Chief of Staff in an acting capacity before he finds a suitable replacement.
Ruto and Mutai have been at loggerheads for quite some time over the benefits the deputy governor should enjoy.
In 2015, Ruto allegedly issued firm orders barring his deputy from fuelling his car at a local petrol station. The attendants at the fuelling station said they were acting upon orders of the county government and refused to budge.
Mutai wondered why Ruto denied him fuel for his only official vehicle yet the governor fuels three vehicles and a helicopter using county funds.
The governor apparently withdrew the benefits because Mutai had failed to report to work for some time.
The deputy governor refuted these allegations stating he had differences with Ruto, which had catapulted after he declared his interest in challenging the governor for the Bomet gubernatorial seat in the 2017 elections.
