Brilliant University Student Invents Phone Auto Charger

A student from University of Nairobi has invented an auto-run charger that charges a phone using the energy generated from the phone's activities.

The electrical engineering student -George Ouma- was among the students who were showcasing their innovations yesterday, during the university’s innovation week.

“The auto cell phone device uses activities such as browsing, making calls and playing games to automatically charge the phone,” he explained to people who listened with a mixture of amazement and fascination.

The charger can either be built into a phone, or attached to the phone cover -a decision which Ouma says he leaves to mobile phone manufacturers.

Although he could not reveal the details of what he used and how exactly he built the device due to protection of intellectual rights, Ouma said assembling the device cost him about Sh 1,500.

The young students who says he has always been fascinated by both technology and electronics, became passionate about the workings of  a mobile phone right from a young age as the gadget encompasses his two fields of interests.

Ouma got the idea for the auto-run charger 2010 but it was not until September 2013 that he was finally able to build it.

Although the young innovator needs financial backing, he has had to turn down sponsorship which sought to take advantage of him in the past.

He however remains hopeful that he will get partners who will give him the financial support he needs to launch the product next year.
