Building Collapses in Kirinyaga, Several Feared Dead and Scores Injured

A day after perimeter walls caved in on Monday in Mombasa killing nine people, a building has collapsed in Kutus, Kirinyaga county.

The building that was under construction caved in, leaving scores injured and several feared dead after a heavy downpour in the area.

Rescuers who rushed to the site pulled three survivors from the rubble.

The tragedy that occurred on Tuesday morning adds on to the incidents witnessed as rains continue to pound different parts of the country.

At the Coast, motorists were left stranded along Mombasa-Kilifi highway after Mbogolo bridge was submerged on Monday.

Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho ordered residents of Runyu informal settlements to be evacuated to safer grounds while another 87 children were moved from Kisauni orphanage following the floods.

Similar tragedies have been witnessed in recent years causing the deaths of dozens and destroying property worth millions.

In April last year, a seven-story building collapsed in Huruma, Nairobi killing more than 50 people with many more being injured.
