Changamwe MP Omar Mwinyi Arrested for Disrupting ODM Party Primaries

Changamwe Member of Parliament Omar Mwinyi has been arrested for disrupting the ongoing Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party primaries.

Mwinyi and his supporters stormed Bomu polling station and destroyed voting materials.

Changamwe Officer Commanding Police Division (OCPD) Peter Omanwa affirmed the incident saying the MP was caught in the act.

According to Changamwe Member of County Assembly (MCA) Jimmy Odari, Mwinyi was protesting alleged malpractices witnessed in the nomination exercise.

"Mwinyi raised questions when did not find his name in the party register at Bomu and Bokole," Odari stated.

The MP is being held at Port Police Station in Mombasa.

After his arrest, rowdy youths threatened to storm the police station but were dispersed by AP and GSU officers.
