A Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) candidate died in Limuru Constituency after a heavy storm caused a concrete wall to collapse on his wooden house.
James Ng'ari was pronounced dead upon arrival at the Tigoni Sub County Hospital. The form four student, who was asleep at the time of the incident, is said to have been badly injured leading to his unfortunate demise.
The wooden house was constructed behind Elsavera School, and after a severe storm in the middle of the night, the stones from the wall fell on Ng'ari's room.
A witness stated that the boy had asked his mother to wake him up at 2am to revise for the remaining KCSE papers, only for the mother to find out that his boy was no more. He further stated that efforts to save him were delayed by the heavy rains.
The storm is said to have started at around 6pm, before intensifying in the middle of the night. Engineers have started investigating whether the wall was well built. Elsavera School has been temporarily closed to allow the family to mourn as inspection on the school wall continues. Ng'ari was a student at Ngenia Secondary School.
The sub county Education Officer, Clarice Mwita asked residents to vacate areas that are likely to be affected by landslides, as the whole country prepares for the on coming El nino.
