Kitui Governor Julius Malombe has suspended the County Environment Executive, George Mulatya, following a Sh93 Million corruption scandal in which his gospel singer wife is implicated.
A statement by the County's Communication Officer Munyasya Musya, indicated that Mr Mulatya would only be recalled once his wife, Faith Kithele, was cleared of the charges.
"...after the case, he (Mr Mulatya) may either be reinstated to his position or his services terminated as the facts and other aspects pertaining to the case may warrant," Governor Malombe was quoted by the Standard.
Kithele appeared in court last week alongside three other suspects for involvement in fraudulent deals that led to the loss of huge sums of money in the county.
It is reported that the four handed out their companies' and businesses' accounts to the main fraudsters through which money was channeled.
"The executive’s wife and two other people are connected to theft of Sh27.8 million, while one is connected to an earlier Sh65 million fraud. We have court orders to hold them as we investigate. “We want them to lead us to the real fraudsters. We are holding them but we have not yet decided whether or not to take them to court." Kitui CID Director Shem Nyamboki said when the scam was uncovered.
Mulatya's office will now be managed by the County Trade Executive Jonah Mwinzi.
