Deputy Governor Suspended for Visiting Ruto

Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) co-ordinating committee in Kisii County has suspended the County's Deputy Governor Joash Maangi as the Party's branch Organising Secretary, after he led a delegation to visit DP William Ruto at his Sugoi home last week.

Speaking to the media, the committee's interim secretary and Youth League leader, Eric Janganya, said Mr Maangi had violated the Constitution's Political Parties Act 2011 by associating with the ruling party instead of promoting ODM policies.

“The deputy governor had failed to defend and promote ODM policies and instead was openly dealing with the Jubilee coalition and promoting its ideals,” said Mr Jaganya

Mr Maangi however, defended himself by saying all leaders were invited and that nothing political was discussed .

"We visited his home as political leaders and friends to the Deputy President. All leaders were invited and every MP was to select 100 people from his constituency,” he said.

Kisii Assembly Speaker Kerosi Ondieki, who is also the party's vice chairman in the region, was also suspended for being part of the team that went to Eldoret.

This comes days after Deputy Governor Maangi, was chased from his own rural home when residents accused him of openly betraying them instead of sticking to ODM.

“Why are you not inviting other leaders to Kisii county to address the residents,” said one of the residents in a video that circulated online.

"Listen, I have come here, I have looked at you all, and I am at home. Now I am saying to all those who were swearing I won’t step here, try to stop me from being here," Mr Maangi said in response, sparking outrage from the crowd.
