An elderly man from Eldoret- Uasin Gishu County has put up one of his kidneys on sale, so he can use the money to get his son’s body from the mortuary.
67-year-old Joseph Ofisi has been unable to pay over Sh4 million in accumulated medical bill for his dead son.
As such the body Ofisi’s son has been detained by a hospital mortuary in Eldoret since March 27, when he passed on.
The deceased ; Quinto Mayunga, -who had been admitted at the hospital’s Intensive Care Unit until his demise- was a boda boda operator.
His career and life as he had known it was brought to an end when he was hit by a tractor which sped off after the accident.
He leaves behind a widow and six children.
Speaking to The Star, Mayunga’s father said that the hospital had offered to waiver Sh2 million off the debt, but he still couldn’t afford the rest of the money.
All he has managed to gather so far is Sh 35,000.
Ofisi owns one acre piece of land which he says will still not meet the required amount of money, if sold.
The man insists that despite his age, his kidney is in good condition.
He says he will be at peace after getting his son from the mortuary and burying him -even if that means living with one kidney for the rest of his life.
He has appealed for help from well-wishers who can reach him through the numbers 0725249794 or 0737441194.
