Duale, Murkomen Mentioned in Parliament Scandal

Top Jubilee Members of Parliament and Senators have been implicated in a scandal after allegedly failing to account for parliamentary funds allocated to them.

Among those mentioned in a report by Auditor General Edward Ouko on Thursday are; leader of Majority Aden Duale, Senator Kipchumba Murkomen and Senate Speaker Ekwe Ethuro.

According to Ouko, some lawmakers did not attend committee sittings yet they claimed allowances.

In the report, Speaker Ethuro is yet to clear Sh989,000, Duale (Sh450,000) while Murkomen has not accounted for Sh890,000.

Some Opposition MPs also featured in the report including ODM chairman John Mbadi and Public Accounts Committee Nicolas Gumbo who are yet to return Sh346,000 and Sh176,000 respectively.

The Ouko report highlights that a total of 100 MPs violated the country’s money laws and regulations with regard to accounting for the Sh101 Million imprest.

In another scandal unearthed by Ouko's office, unnamed MPs travelled abroad with taxpayer money, allocated themselves more cash besides their daily allowances and did not produce receipts to account for their expenditure.
