Garissa University to Open in September

Garissa University College is set to open its doors to students in September this year –after months of closure.

The institution has been closed since the terrorist attack which took place on April 2, this year.

147 people lost their lives in the attack.

The surviving students were transferred to Moi University, Eldoret.

On Friday, Garissa residents and other citizens from different parts of the country held a ceremony on the campus grounds ahead of the re-opening.

The ceremony was organized by the Northern Advocacy Initiative, in conjunction with the Queen of Hearts.

Among the people in attendance were National Cohesion and Integration Commission chairman Francis Kaparo and journalist Lolani Kalu.

Emotions ran high as the group held an overnight vigil at the hostels where the students were brutally murdered in the attack.

In a resolve to rise from the ashes, most of the staff members have already returned to work at the college.

In the meantime, plans to admit students into the institution are underway.
