Gatundu Residents Close Down 198 Bars

Residents of Gatundu South have made a list of 198 bars which they say should no be allowed to operate.

Consequently, only 130 bars from the region will be mandated to operate, albeit within certain restrictions.

The locals rejected the 198 bars because they allegedly are located near schools, flout the Alcoholic Act and operate before and after hours.

The new resolutions were made in a public meeting at Gatundu Catholic Hall.

Present at the meeting were area MP Moses Kuria, Kimani Ichung’wa of Kikuyu, Francis Waititu of Juja and Ferdinand Waititu of Kabete.

Lauding the decision by the residents, Kuria said the move was a sure way of steering the area towards development, which had been derailed by excessive alcohol consumption in the area.

Area residents, in the meeting, also completely banned all wines and spirits outlet in the constituency.
