Governor Ranguma's Plan to Stay in Sh552 Million Hotel Stopped

Auditor General Edward Ouko has directed Kisumu Governor Jack Ranguma to lodge at the official residence of the mayor of the defunct local authority, instead of spending Sh552 Million on rent at a hotel in Milimani.

In his report, the Ouko instructed the Assembly and the Executive undertaking the Governor's accommodation plans, to follow procurement laws stipulated and recover double payments of rent.

He further indicated that it was not possible to verify why Ranguma could not be accommodated at the Mayor's residence.

In the same report, Ranguma was ordered to refund Sh9 Million he paid to the Council of Governors citing that the constitution only allowed funds from the National Government to support the council.

In the Auditor General 2013/2014 Kisumu's review, the Governor stirred a storm after the report showed that he spent nearly Sh21 Million on accommodation in a hotel as the devolved government renovated his official residence.
