A police officer on Monday night accidentally shot himself and a suspect he had arrested in Kayole area Nairobi.
The event took place while the officer and his two colleagues were transporting a group of suspects in a police vehicle.
His gun accidentally went off hitting him and the suspect on the legs. Both were rushed to Mama Lucy Hospital.
"The officer is still admitted but the suspect was treated and discharged," Officer Commanding Police Division the area Joseph Gichangi stated.
In 2016, a similar incident occurred when an officer from Makongeni Police Station turned fire on himself.
Constable Samuel Ndirangu accidentally shot himself on the thigh while guarding a roadblock along Jogoo Road.
He was rushed to Metropolitan hospital in Buruburu where he died from loss of excessive blood.
