How 3 Governors Splashed Sh10 Billion in 6 Months - Report

A report released by the Controller of Budget has revealed how three Counties spent Billions of tax payers money in six months.

The Government's Budget Implementation Review Report for the first half of 2015/16 financial year indicated that Nairobi's Evans Kidero, Nakuru's Kinuthia Mbugua and Hassan Joho of Mombasa County used a whopping Sh10 Billion for personal emoluments in the stated period.

According to the report, the three devolved governments spent the money on payment of salaries to County workers, topping the list of some of the most extravagant Counties.

In the Review, a total of Sh56.3 Billion was channeled to payment of wages in the various Counties while a further Sh4.5 Billion was spent on travel expenses only.

The statistics, as reported by the Standard, exposed County Governments which had used the highest amounts on travelling being led again by Nairobi which used Sh286.9 Million, Nakuru followed after spending Sh197.3 Million with Bungoma coming in third at Sh 188.9 Million within the said period.

The Controller of Budget has in the past made public how various departments both in the National and County Governments have mysteriously spent public funds.

A few weeks ago, the Controller announced that the Presidency, which includes State House and Deputy President's office, had used Sh2.4 Billion in the first half of the current financial year.

The report indicated that the Presidency spent a whopping Sh627 Million on State receptions, garden parties, beverages, gifts and other hospitality supplies.

In addition, the highest office on the land spent Sh111 Million on foreign travel, Sh208 Million on domestic travel, Sh141 Million on printing and advertising, with a Sh148 Million catering for rental expenditure and Sh638 Million for salaries.
