The Ugandan Police are now saying that KTN business anchor Joy Doreen Biira, who was arrested on Sunday in Kasese town, "is out of detention but is still with the police".
Speaking during an interview on NBS TV, police spokesperson Felix Kaweesi divulged that Doreen was safe highlighting that a bond was already being worked on to ensure her release.
"Joy Biira is safe and I have talked to commanders that if there are charges, let her be granted police bond," he noted.
Mr Kaweesi mentioned that the reporter was arrested for going against orders that had been issued when the military fight broke out in the area.
"I think she misbehaved, she might have accessed a cordoned off area," Kaweesi said.
He stated that she was curently being interrogated over the issue.
The police spokesperson added that the photos and videos making rounds on social media had been manipulated to suit the interests of certain people who want exacerbate the situation.
Chaos erupted in Uganda when royal guards protecting King Charles Wesley Mumbere of the Rwenzururu kingdom attacked patrolling security forces.
Biira, who was in the country for her traditional wedding, landed in trouble for circulating photos and videos of the massacre which has seen over 55 people killed brutally.
However, Mr Kaweesi stated that: "I'm yet to establish how many people died during a crossfire at the palace, but certainly it wasn't a cup of tea."
The reporter was taken into custody together with her fiance, Newton Kungu.
