Jubilee Party Sacks 73 Presiding Officers in Nyeri County

The Jubilee Party Election Board in Nyeri County on Wednesday fired 73 presiding officers in Tetu constituency over alleged vote rigging.

The Presiding officers were fired after allegations of secretly meeting up with a section of Nyeri aspirants in the Aberdare Country Club.

Nyeri Jubilee Elections Board Chairman George Kibera on Wednesday evening noted that the officers were fired to ensure fairness ahead of Friday’s nominations.

“The board decided to dismiss all the presiding officers in Tetu because there was evidence of malpractice,”  Mr Kibera stated.

The board, however, noted that they would not take any action on the politicians involved as disciplinary action is a mandate of the national disciplinary committee at the party headquarters.

On Tuesday, rowdy supporters stormed the Aberdare Country Club and blocked Tetu Member of Parliament Ndung'u Gethenji and his Chief Campaigner Fianju Mathenge who were reportedly in the hotel meeting up with presiding officers.

The firing of the presiding officers comes only a day before the Jubilee nominations kick off on Friday 21st April.

On Wednesday, the Jubilee National Elections Board announced that the party would hold its nominations for two days and not one as earlier stated. The days have been slated for the 21st and 25th of April respectively.
