Jubilee Warns Aspirants That Any Violence Will Lead to Outright Disqualification From The Party

Jubilee aspirants who flout nomination rules in the coming nomination exercise next Friday, will not be allowed to seek an elective as an independent candidate.

According to Jubilee Party National Elections Board Chairman Andrew Musangi, aspirants who will cause violence will be disqualified by the party.

Musangi added that the party will also recommend disqualification even if the candidate decamps afterward.

“We want to differentiate ourselves from the historically chaotic nominations that we have had in this country,” said Musangi.

He also warned that even those keen on jumping ship once they lose in the primaries will be prevented from getting cleared by the electoral commission.

The Chair pointed out that they will have agents to check on violence in all 33 counties that they will carry out the exercise involving more than 8,000 aspirants.

A statement supported by Jubilee Secretary-General Raphael Tuju who argued that footage from various media houses will also be used to outrightly disqualify anyone engaged in violence.

Tuju warned that the ‘Men in Black’ style of chaos that rocked the opposition’s Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) will not be tolerated.

“If we get any evidence that you have done a Men-in-Black on us, we will disqualify you. And if the electoral commission sees that we have disqualified you rightly, you will not even be allowed to run as an independent,” warned Tuju

The two spoke amidst questions of the party’s preparedness ahead of the nomination process after a nomination exercise run by their rivals ODM in Busia ended in chaos.

It forced ODM elections board to nullify the gubernatorial aspirants nominations after irregularities over the number of voters.
