KCSE Candidate Links DP Ruto to His Exam Troubles

Vocal civil rights activist Boniface Mwangi has revealed that the case against Deputy President William Ruto has negatively affected his studies as he is currently sitting for his KCSE exams as a private candidate.

Mwangi revealed that his lawyer Gitobu Imanyara has tasked him with the role of conducting media research in a case where the deputy president has sued him for defamation.

The assignment has distracted him from his tuition which he attends at Visionary Tuition Centre in Nairobi’s South B estate.

“I thought I was going to take a break from October to study. Then I got involved in this Ruto case ... My lawyer, Gitobu Imanyara, tasked me with doing background media research on this case,” the activist explained in an interview with a local daily.

He added, “one of the embarrassing things is that I may not pass as well as I expected to pass. But I’m going to do my best”.
In the interview, Mwangi revealed that he did not complete his secondary education due to his troubled childhood.

“I’m not embarrassed that I’m doing my KCSE exam 18 years later; because now I can afford to sit as a private candidate … and one of my classmates is a 60-year-old man who has said he wants to do it,” he affirmed.

Although he has accomplished a lot as a photographer and later as an activist, Mwangi stated that he wanted to fill a gap in his life.

The certificate will also enable him to vie for the Starehe parliamentary seat where he has confirmed to have an interest in the coming 2017 election.
