Killed CORD Protesters to be 'Awarded'

Two protesters, who were shot dead in Siaya County during demonstrations against the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission, are set to be honoured by having roads named after them.

Siaya Governor Cornel Rasanga reportedly indicated that two roads would be named after Austine Omwombo and Churchill Omondi.

“We want to honour the two for standing with the rest of Kenyans against an untrustworthy electoral body,” Rasanga said.

Rasanga is reported to have made the pronouncement after being accused of giving the bereaved families empty promises.

Omwombo and Omondi suffered gunshots after police supposedly used live ammunition to repulse a group of rowdy demonstrators.

The deceased were laid to rest a week ago with Siaya County Women Representative Christine Ombaka, petitioning the Government to compensate the bereaved families.

“The bereaved families should be compensated for the loss of their sons, by paying school fees for their children and catering for the upkeep of their widowed spouses,” she noted.
