KNUT Urges Teachers to go on Strike if There is No Salary Increment.

Secretary General of the Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) on Monday encouraged teachers not to return to their duties in September if the government fails to honor their 50-60% salary increment.Sossion stated this in a conference in Mombasa with primary school heads.

“We will not accept this form of oppression by the government. This will be the mother of all strikes and we are not relenting on that. We will stay at home because the government has refused to show respect for teachers,” Sossion Vowed.

The Teachers Service Commission on July 30th was ordered to pay a total of 42.3 Billion shillings to forty two thousand retired teachers bringing to a closure a long standing dispute.

The ruling awarding teachers the hefty increment has been appealed by the TSC as the teachers await for the increment to reflect on their August payslip.

“We will never dance to the same tune again, people must learn to respect the court ruling because it was made by competent judges after they carefully analysed our complaints. It was not made by quacks,” Sossion emphasized.

TSC may be facing an extra 70 billion shillings a year on top of its current teachers wage bill.
