A man in Luanda, Vihiga County stabbed and seriously injured his mother after she allegedly refused to give him money for cigarettes.
The middle aged man later on set the mother's house on fire before fleeing the scene.
Area Assistant-Chief said the man had earlier been given Sh20 for cigarettes by his mother, but was denied when he asked for more.
In rage, he attacked his mother and burned all her belongings in the house, Citizen TV reports.
Residents condemned the attack on the woman, saying the man was constantly disturbing his mother asking for money.
The woman is now asking for help to rebuild another house and buy house-hold items.
Police have launched a man hunt for the suspect.
