A 24 year old man met a tragic death on Saturday evening after he was caught stealing cigarettes from a shop in Mukangu Village, Embu-North sub-county.
Benson Wamae is said to have broken into the shop and took with him cigarettes of unknown value.
The shop owner raised an alarm as Wamae tried to make a run for it.
An angry crowd heeded the alarm raise gathering around the suspect.
His pleas for forgiveness fell on deaf ears as the irate mob set upon him, beating him mercilessly.
They later put a tire around him and lit him on fire.
Embu North OCPD James Karisa confirmed the incident to Citizen Digital.
He warned residents against mob justice, reiterating that those involved will face the law.
