Men Accused of Killing Kibet Cheretei and Pepe Kitambaa in Baringo Freed on Sh500,000 Bond

Four suspects, who had been arrested in connection with the murder of Jubilee aspirants Kibet Cheretei and Pepe Kitambaa in Marigat town, Baringo County, have been set free.

Kabarnet High Court Judge Edward Muriithi released the 4 suspects on a cash bail of Sh 500,000 each with the case scheduled to proceed after 30 days.

Musa Kusur, Daniel Lokitari, Titus Longor and Lomudungule Yatta are accused of shooting their victims on 19 February at a local pub.

Following the killing of Pepe and Cheretei, a section of Baringo residents held demonstrations with some linking influential Jubilee politician Asman Kamama and the Baringo county assembly speaker William Kamket to the two murders.

Kamama, who defected to Maendeleo Chap Chap party, distanced himself from the killings which some residents believed were political assassinations.

Pepe had declared his interest in challenging Kamama for the Tiaty parliamentary seat while Cheretei was set to defend his Loyamorok Member of County Assembly seat.

The deaths heightened tension between the Tugen, Marakwet and Pokot communities living in the area with Kamama being forced to flee from an irate mob in the area.
