Meru Woman Supports Husband's Decision to Sell Kidney in Bid to Pay Bank Loan

A Kenyan couple surprised residents in Meru County after they decided to sell one of their kidneys to settle a Sh472,000 loan that they have been unable to pay to a local bank.

Joseph Mwiti and his wife Purity Mwiti, both residents of Gaturi in Imenti South Sub-county, have been caught up in a huge financial hole that has seen the bank auction their only cow that they have been relying on to feed their family.

It was the dire situation that forced him to advertise his kidney, hoping that it would fetch him enough money to offset the loan the family had taken to lease a tea farm.

Mr Mwiti did not initially consult his wife before making the painful decision to sell his vital organ.

However, after learning of the situation, his loving wife supported him to go ahead since they do not have an alternative source of cash.

"I only learned that he had advertised to sell his kidney in a WhatsApp group through neighbours. I have told him he is free to do so," Purity narrated.
