Aspiring Nairobi Governor Miguna Miguna was on Friday swift to respond to accusations that he was responsible for the cancellation of veteran journalist Jeff Koinange's contract with KTN.
Miguna dismissed those who were blaming him for the exit of Jeff Koinange Live (JKL) show on KTN highlighting: "The Moi cartels are the ones who have TERMINATED Koinange Jeff's contract; not Miguna Miguna. We must BOLDLY speak the truth."
Miguna's claims came after a post by a former writer at the Standard newspaper, Wahome Thuku, who alleged that the show host could have been driven out of the station for allowing the lawyer to mention powerful individuals in a “derogatory manner”.
"Last week I said with 100% precision that Miguna would never again feature on JKL in KTN. And it was not because of attacking Passaris. It was because of linking her to Mwangi of Equity and Gichuru former MD of KPLC in whichever way he did," he explained.
According to Mr Thuku, the situation was made worse by Miguna alluding that former President Daniel Moi was a dictator, on a station supposedly owned by the retired Head of State.
“But the worst was when Miguna said Moi was a dictator. Something told me the JKL host had let the show cross the line. Moi owns KTN and Jeff should have known that and make amends. He didn't. And choices have consequences,” he concluded.
The Canadian-based lawyer further linked Ms Passaris to Koinange's woes claiming that she was encouraged to appear on last week's controversial show by 'powerful people' to set up Koinange.
"To Koinange, you have been a valued friend. The cartels used Esther Passaris to set you up. Don't fall into their CROOKED TRICKS," Miguna tweeted.
On Thursday, Mr Koinange made the shocking announcement of his departure noting: "This will be the final JKL on KTN... we are going to take a little break but rest assured all of you watching tonight, JKL will be back on another station in the coming weeks, stay tuned we will keep you posted on social media."
Koinange's troubles started during the show which hosted Miguna and businesswoman Esther Passaris - only to later turn into a hotbed of insults.
He also apologised over the said show which had caused public outrage.
"About a week ago right here on JKL we had a programme that deteriorated into something extremely ugly… where two guests went at each other and then some people out there who probably thought I should have done a better job in controlling the guests and I agree looking back hindsight is always 20/20... but in a live TV programme its always difficult… but I agree am man enough to man up to that."
“And if there is anyone who felt aggrieved by the show… anyone who felt I didn't do a good job… I apologise so that we can move on. It was regrettable in most parts but again it was one show out of 300 we have done on KTN," Koinange stated.
