Mourner Dies As MP's Goons Disrupt Burial Ceremony

A mourner was killed and several other people injured after fracas broke out at a funeral in Ndhiwa, Homabay County.

What was meant to be a peaceful send off for the late Patrick Anyanza quickly spiraled out of control as unidentified thugs started shouting, scaring off mourners who scampered for safety.

The thugs are said to have been hired to disrupt the funeral by area MP Agostino Neto.

Neto and the goons were, according to The People, angry at local politicians in attendance at the funeral, who had made claims that the had embezzled funds from the CDF kitty.

The Nation however reports that the MP has denied any involvement in the incident.

Neto says while he was at the funeral, he had no part in what the goons did, claiming not to know any of the goons.

Anyanza, the deceased was a Nairobi CDF board staff and had died of stab wounds at Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital.

A student who was caught up in the chaos is currently in critical condition.

Homa Bay County Police Commander John Omusanga says investigations have been launched into the incident.

Several witnesses have already recorded statements with the police.
