MP Moses Kuria Attacks Sossion, Calls for His Arrest

Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria wants the authorities to arrest KNUT Secretary General Wilson Sossion over the ongoing teachers strike.

Kuria has accused Sossion of looking out for his own welfare and not that of teachers.

He added that the strike is an act of sabotaging the country's economy and legal action should therefore be taken against Sossion.

Kuria said that the teachers' unions were encouraging teachers to go on strike because they (unions) will benefit financially, Citizen Digital reports.

The KNUT Secretary General officially announced the teachers nationwide strike on Wednesday.

This is after the government failed to meet the teachers unions' Monday-midnight deadline of implementing a 50-60 per cent salary increment awarded by the court.

The Nation reports that KNUT on Thursday presented a case at the High Court, suing the Teachers Service Commission  for contempt of court.

KNUT is accusing the TSC, Cabinet and Principal Secretaries of Finance and Labour of refusing to respect court orders to raise the teachers' salary.

The TSC on the other hand has moved to court challenging the unions' decision to call for a nation-wide teachers' strike.
