MP's Bodyguard Beaten By Angry Residents

A Member of Parliament's bodyguard is in hospital nursing serious injuries after being beaten by an angry mob.

Witnesses claim the bodyguard had been stealing and threatening residents in Kisumu Town alongside a fellow officer using guns. The two, Clement Sakwa and Paul Wanyama, were surrounded by an angry mob in Kisumu Town before being beaten.

Residents set a trap for them, and the two suspects found themselves in deep trouble.

The incident happened on Saturday night, when it was alleged that officer Wanyama pulled out his Ceska Pistol after the mob began descending on them but escaped with minor injuries.

His counterpart Sakwa was unlucky as he was thoroughly beaten before being rescued by the police. He is currently admitted at Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital and is reported to have sustained serious injuries.

Mumias East MP Benjamin Washiali, who was not in Kisumu at the time of the incident, said the police should investigate the matter and if found guilty, the two should pay for it.

Assistant Inspector General, Joseph Keitany, confirmed that the police had started investigating the matter and further stated that the two were not on official duty when the incident happened.
