Nairobi Businessman Dies on Mountain

A Nairobi businessman who was climbing Mt. Longonot alongside his friends is reported to have died amid the Saturday afternoon adventure.

The businessman, whose name could not be identified, is said to have developed complications, passed out and died in the arms of his companions.

The group had embarked on a weekend out of the city to hike the mountain, where their colleague started complaining of dizziness and breathing complications.

According to one of the members, Henry Mureithi, who was part of the team scaling the mountain, they tried to reach the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) officers for help after the man collapsed, but the KWS took too long to respond and when they arrived the man was already dead.

However, a senior KWS officer who declined to be named downplayed the accusations by Mureithi, saying they did their best as they could only manage to carry out the rescue mission  a helicopter.

“There is a process of requesting for one from our headquarters in Nairobi,” he told the Star.

Three years ago, two young men, who were part of a youth group from PCEA Kinoo, fell and died in the crater while several others were injured after being attacked by a swam of bees.
