The incumbent Governor of Nairobi, Dr Evans Kidero, has watered down the win by Jubilee’s nominee for the seat Mike Sonko, as a non-issue.
Speaking in Nairobi, Governor Kidero exuded confidence that he will comfortably defeat Senator Sonko in the August 8 polls.
Kidero revealed that he knew all along that Sonko was going to win the gubernatorial contest between him and former Gatanga Member of Parliament (MP) Peter Kenneth for the Jubilee ticket.
“I am not surprised. All along we knew Sonko was going to be our competitor. So we are not worried and Nairobians will prove that in August,” revealed Kidero.
He pointed out that his team was not worried about Sonko’s win and were prepared to clinically win the seat for the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party where he was handed a direct ticket.
“Our level of preparedness is not determined by who our competitor is. It is determined by the urban integrated development plan that we have developed,” said the Governor.
Kidero added that Sonko’s massive 138,185 votes against Kenneth’s 62,504 were not a factor in his re-election bid but his track record for the county in his five-year term.
The governor noted that he had initiated many development projects for the county and his development agenda would override Sonko’s win come August.
Sonko trounced his fierce rival Peter Kenneth in the Jubilee primaries on Thursday and will now face Kidero in the general election.
The Nairobi governorship race between Sonko and Kenneth was widely touted as the make or break showdown in Jubilee as the two arch rivals locked horns for the top seat.
