Nairobi Senator Mike Sonko Reveals Why He Was Jailed at Shimo La Tewa Prison

Nairobi Gubernatorial hopeful Mike Sonko has for the first time publicly admitted and revealed details on why he had been jailed at Shimo La Tewa prison 20 years ago.

Speaking on Wednesday during an interview on Citizen TV's Jeff Koinange Live show, the Nairobi Senator stated that he had been locked up at the notorious prison due to a land dispute in Mombasa.

He narrated that he had bought a plot along the beach at a cost of Sh4 Million then before he could occupy it, he sold it at Sh8 Million to a client from Germany who wanted to construct a beach hotel.

Trouble began when the family that had sold Sonko the land got information that the German client had bought the land for Sh8 Million. They reported the matter to the police claiming that Sonko had swindled them which led to the current Nairobi Senator being arrested.

"I approached the Masabuni family and I paid them a 10% deposit and I took the land documents, then I later sold the piece of land for Sh8 Million to my German client who was willing to buy the land at the said price. But things went wrong after the Masaibu realised I had sold the land for Sh8 Million but I had given him only Sh4 Million," he emphasised

Sonko emphasised that he did not do anything wrong because he was just doing business and that he had made two different deals with his clients so that he would profit from the deal.

"I like saying the truth and it is true I spent time at Shimo La Tewa prison but I was later released because I was found not guilty because I had the papers to show that I conducted the deal in a fair manner and that I did not cheat or steal any money from anybody but I was just conducting business," he stated
