NYS Responds To Claims It Failed To Pay Youth after Finishing Projects

The National Youth Service (NYS) Director-General Nelson Githinji has refuted claims that there are youth who were not paid after successfully finishing projects sponsored by the NYS.

In a twitter post, Githinji said all the workers are paid through MPESA once the work is completed.

He was referring to protests by youth in Chuka Igambang’ombe constituency in Meru County, where they claimed they were not paid for their services.

Citizen Tv reports that the youth blocked the Meru-Nairobi Highway for the better part of yesterday demanding their dues.

They also complained of being mistreated by some of the supervisors.

According to The Nation, Githinji said that the NYS pays youth engaged in its projects countrywide Sh164 million weekly.

Githinji said that failure to pay may occur if the youth do not provide the correct phone numbers.
