The Orange Democratic Movement(ODM) through their National Elections Board(NEB) has announced that it will on Monday award the party’s nomination certificates to Nairobi Governor Dr Evans Kidero and HomaBay Women Rep Gladys Wanga who are unopposed in their re-election bids.
ODM Director of communication Mr Philip Etale over the weekend indicated that there was no need for unopposed aspirants to undergo nominations as they will receive direct party tickets.
“There are some aspirants who do not have opponents. Such aspirants will not be subjected to nominations hence qualifying for automatic nomination to vie for the seats applied for.
“It is with this background that the NEB has elected Monday the 3rd of April as the day for the presentation of nomination certificates to unopposed aspirants,” Etale stated.
The ODM elections board indicated that the decision was arrived at after the party compiled a list of aspirants who applied to vie for the various seats on the Party ticket.
The board further indicated that, the decision was also fueled by the need to create time for the party’s NEB to focus on the nominations set to begin on Friday next week.
The move to give direct nominations has given Wanga and Kidero’s re-election plan a huge boost as they have adequate time s to plan for their opponents in the upcoming elections.
The event will be held at the Bomas of Kenya.
