Poisoned Community Wants Compensation From The Government

About 3000 victims of lead poisoning in Owino Uhuru area, Changamwe Constituency are now seeking compensation from the National Government.

The residents blame the government of negligence and failure to monitor the metal refinery company that was set up in the area.

The  factory was accused of dumping poisonous residue in the slums that negatively affected the community that surrounds it.

The victims, led by activist Phyllis Omido, are seeking Sh1.6 Billion compensation from the government claiming their lives have been gravely affected by the poisonous emissions from the factory leading to constant medical complications and death in the area.

Phyllis Omido who was a casual worker in the factory before she realised that her own breast milk was poisoning her child has been actively involved in thier pursuit for compensation.

The manace was first brought to light after KTN carried out an expose of a lead poisoning scandal in the area early this year.
