Police Demand Gun from ODM MP

A Member of Parliament of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has been ordered to surrender his gun after his sole bodyguard was withdrawn on Friday morning.

Mvita MP Abdulswamad Shariff, however, claimed that he has never owned a gun contradicting the government's directive.

“I wish to remind them (government) I've never owned a gun so I'm surprised to be asked to return the same,” the MP posted on Facebook.

The Coast legislator accused the government of resorting to intimidation after last week's Malindi by-election where an Opposition candidate was declared the winner.

The defiant lawmaker added that they (Coast leaders) will continue speaking up on corruption that has taken root in the Jubilee government.

“Corruption that has grown roots in this government shall be fought whether by us or anyone else. The truth never gets hidden by chest thumping,” he reassured.

This comes just a day after Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho's five bodyguards were withdrawn and asked his fire arm taken on Thursday morning by the police.
