Police Officers 'Riot', Commander Escapes

Over 200 Administration Police (AP) officers caused a scene at the National Youth Service Training College in Gilgil, Nakuru County, demanding allowances for participating in the Madaraka Day celebrations.

The officers complained that they had spent close to a whole month preparing for the Wednesday event held at Afraha Stadium but were yet to receive their dues.

The angry officers reportedly forced Nakuru AP Commander Francis Kirathe to flee when they turned rowdy as he attempted to persuade them to resume work at their stations in Nairobi.

They lamented of 'discrimination' arguing that their colleagues in the Prisons and Kenya Police department had received Sh20,000 and Sh34,500 respectively for the same event.

According to the officers, it had become a trend for their seniors to delay their payment as witnessed during a previous national event when they were paid only Sh2,000, the Nation reports.

The security officers had been in the County rehearsing for the first Madaraka Day celebrations during which they staged marching skills with precision.
