Politician Cons 140 Kenyans in Fake Cow Business

An Othaya politician has been linked to a company that has conned Kenyans millions of shillings by claiming to sell cows imported from South Africa.

It is reported that the Nairobi based company, Manila Farm, is registered under one Emilio Kibui Mwangi who unsuccessfully contested for the Othaya parliamentary seat in 2013.

At least 140 people claim to have lost money through the company which had assured them that they would get seven months pregnant Holstein Fresian cows, each with a milk production capacity of 45 litres a day for Sh280,000.

The buyers were offered an option of obtaining the cows on hire purchase by giving a deposit of Sh35,000 and thereafter a monthly installment of Sh8,000 for three years, as well as Sh11,270 insurance fee per cow.

A section of the buyers told the Nation that they learnt about the business from an advertisement in the local dailies, which was published mid last year and they paid for the cows but were yet to receive them.

Mr Nduati Githere said he lost Sh127,540 after paying a deposit of Sh105,000 for three cows and Sh22,540 as an insurance fee for two cows.

“I even reported the matter to police, I wrote a statement, then was referred back to the office, which has been taking me round in circles,” he claimed.

Chief Investigator at the Central Police Zachary Nangulu said that the matter had been reported to them and promised to make arrests as they were in the process of tracking down the company’s bosses.

The Manilla Farm's offices, which are located next to Meridian Hotel in Nairobi, have since been shifted with a guard reporting that the occupants had packed and moved after a number of people showed up demanding an explanation following the loss of their money.
