Police in Nairobi have arrested a man who had been fraudulently offering gynaecological services, after residents mobbed his office threatening to burn down his clinic.
The man identified as Mugo wa Wairimu is accused of allegedly sedating and raping female patients in Githurai 44, Nairobi.
Mr Mugo of Prestige healthcare clinic, which has been offering gynaecological health services to women around Githurai and Zimmerman estates, was the subject of an investigative report on Citizen TV, after footage of him allegedly raping a woman in his clinic emerged.
The woman had gone in for a check up and in the footage, secretly shot by one of Mugo's emloyees, the patient appeared unconscious.
In the report, another unidentifed woman tells of her suspicion of rape after she had sought medical help from Mugo.
On occasion, the clinic offers free gynaecological services to women.
After the report aired on Sunday, angry residents stormed the clinic Monday morning, baying for the man's blood, Classic 105 reports.
They wanted to burn down the clinic, but were stopped by police officers who were called to the scene.
Authorities have urged anyone with a complaint against the 'doctor' to report their complaints at Kasarani Police Station.
The Director of Public Prosecutions, Keriako Tobiko, through a Facebook post on Sunday, said he would take action against the suspected on Monday.
Kenyans took to social media using the hashtag #DoctoredAbuse and #DaktariMbakaji to condemn Mugo's actions.
On his part, Mugo has denied the allegations, saying the footage was doctored.
Whilst maintaining his innocence in several Facebook posts, he said he had already been tried and convicted by the media.
The Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Board (KMPDB) has since discredited Mugo wa Wairimu’s clinical operations labelling him a quack.
Meanwhile, Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinett has ordered for the forensic probe and arrest of Mugo wa Wairimu.
