Residents Hold Prayers To Stop Alcohol Raid

Drama ensued at Ndiruni village in Tharaka Nithi county when residents gathered to pray and fast in order to stop the police from raiding an alcohol brewing company.

It is alleged that the locals were pleading with God to strike the officers with blindness and cover the company with a black cloud the police could not see it.

However, their prayers seemed to have hit a snag since officers led by Tharaka-Nithi County Commissioner Florence Amoit stormed the company, destroyed 18,000 litres of alcohol and seized 36-500 litre tanks with other brewing materials.

Disappointed residents claimed that the police were trying to cut off their livelihood as the company had employed over 300 people.

They also argued that the enterprise had promoted business in the area by purchasing sugarcane and honey for making beer.

One of the residents, Mary Muthoni noted that security agents had been raiding the company on a regular basis despite a court order barring from doing so.

“As from today, we will fast and pray God for seven days until police keep off this facility,” Ms Muthoni was quoted by the Daily Nation.

The locals now seek to petition President Uhuru Kenyatta following the destruction of their traditional brew which they say was being used during at marriage and other traditional ceremonies.
