A school in Bungoma County was Monday shut down indefinitely after students went on a rampage demanding the removal of their principal.
In the riots at Khasoko High School, the students are said to have destroyed the school posho mill, laboratory, food stuff and property of unknown value.
County Commissioner Mohamed Maalim stated that the Sunday night strike was the third one in two months, as students protested against alleged poor management in the institution.
However, the school principal, Daniel Mwaturo, denied the claims saying that students were incited by some teachers and members of the local community.
"We don't really understand what is going on because the allegations are far-fetched," Mr Mwaturo said.
Several students were reportedly injured in a confrontation that ensued after police were called to restore order at the school.
"Most of our colleagues had serious injuries after police clobbered us with crude weapons,” a student who sought anonymity was quoted by the Star.
Last month, the students burnt down a dormitory over the same issue concerning the principal but no action was taken.
The County Commissioner assured that education officials were investigating the matter and aggrieved parties should follow the right channel in addressing the problem.
