Senator Mike Sonko Accuses Politicians of Ignoring Principles of The Founding Father Mzee Jomo Kenyatta

Nairobi Senator Mike Sonko has taken a swipe at political leaders in Kenya for propagating tribalism.

Through his tweeter handle, the outspoken Senator stated that the leaders had ignored the principles of the founding father, Mzee Jomo Kenyatta.

Sonko said that Mzee Kenyatta’s message on tribalism had been ignored by selfish politicians out to gain political mileage on divisions.

He accused fellow politicians of being behind the surge in the rhetoric of ethnicity and politics of division ahead of the August polls.

In the video embedded by the Senator, Mzee Kenyatta says that Kenya wants security, peace, development and unity of its people and warns against the vice of tribalism.

“sisi tunapigana na ukabila, na yeyote atakaye leta ukabila katika nchi yetu, pahali mwingereza ataeda atamfuata nyuma yake, Kwa hivyo sisi tunasema kwamba nchi ya kenya haina ukabila, nchi ya kenya haitamtambua yeyote ambaye atahubiri habari ya ukabila.” (we are fighting against tribalism and anyone bringing tribalism will follow colonialists where they will go. Therefore Kenya has no tribalism and will not recognise anyone preaching it.) said Mzee Kenyatta.

Sonko is locked in a bitter fight with former Gatanga Member of Parliament Peter Kenneth in Jubilee, to unseat Governor Evans Kidero.

The flamboyant Senator has accused power brokers behind Kenneth of trying to force him to quit the race, but he (Sonko) has vowed not to accept Kenneth "as my running mate or to be his deputy".

Sonko maintains that Kenneth should instead apologise to him, Mama Ngina Kenyatta, and his wife for the not supporting President Uhuru Kenyatta in 2013.
