Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula is reported to have saved his wife from police arrest over a domestic brawl, in which they allegedly accused each other of physical assault.
Senator Wetangula is said to have stopped police from taking Anne Wetangula into custody, to avoid an embarassing scene over the incident. The legislator reportedly claimed that his wife attacked and injured him on the night of February 18, at their home in Karen.
However, police have since indicated the complications surrounding investigations into the alleged violent domestic feud between Mr and Mrs Wetangula.
According to police records, Mrs Wetangula was the first to report to the police on February 21 that her husband beat her on the night of February 18 at around 9pm.
The Senator's wife complained of having sustained injuries on both hands, chest and legs.
Later on the same day, Mr Wetangula went to Lang'ata police station and made a similar report, accusing his wife of assaulting him.
In a P3 form obtained by Mr Wetangula, the Senator is said to have sustained a small swelling on the left side of his scalp. According to the document, he also suffered soft tissue injuries on the chest, wrist, elbow and ankle which appeared to have been caused by a blunt object.
In a report by the Nation, Nairobi Police Boss Japheth Koome, indicated that it was still early to establish what happened but the matter was under investigations.
The probe, however, faces hurdles since the assault did not take place in public, therefore police cannot act without the aggrieved parties cooperating.
The CORD co-principal and his wife are also yet to return the police P3 forms which are integral to their assault complaints.
“We can’t take action on what we have not seen. They have not come back with the forms, and we cant force them,” The Standard quotes Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI - Karen Division) Kenneth Njoroge
