Someone Wants to Kill Us – Nairobi MCAs

Members of Nairobi County Assembly are said to be in fear for their lives following a series of threats they have allegedly been receiving over the past few months.

Speaking on behalf of the members, Majority Leader Alias Okumu said nothing had been done to ensure their safety despite expressing their grievances to the County Security personnel.

On Tuesday, Kilimani MCA Moses Ogote claimed he received phone calls in which someone threatened to behead him and dispose his head at Dandora dumping site.

“I received a call yesterday (Tuesday) and the caller asked me why I wanted the security officers out of their job. Then he said that if I don’t stop I would find my head in Dandora,”said Ogote.

The MCA who is a member of the Public Accounts Committee, stated that the calls were intended to scare him from pursuing a probe into the irregular hiring of 24 personal security officers for Governor Evans Kidero.

The suspicious hiring of security personnel was questioned by the Auditor General Edward Ouko highlighting that the recruitment process did not follow the required procedures.

Mr Ogote shared in the sentiments stating that he had asked the County Secretary to read out the names of the hired persons and confirm whether they were from the same ethnic group.

While delivering a ruling in the County Assembly, Speaker Alex Ole Magelo, said that the executive had withdrawn his security almost immediately after he assumed office.

“I am not ashamed to say that Mr Francis Munyamu, who is the head of security, only works for Dr Kidero. We no longer have faith in him and we rely on the National Security Officers,”said Mr Magelo.

The MCA's further accused the executive of being behind the threats.
